I was told years ago that the inventor of the seat belt died in an automobile accident. It is reported he was not wearing his seat belt.
Whether this story is true or not, it illustrates the point. Even when we know how to have a pure heart, we must do it.
Those who don’t want to fall in alcoholism know not to take the first drink. Those who don’t want to be addicted to drugs know not to take the first one. So we should not give up one minute in our striving for purity.
Thomas Jefferson said “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” This is true regarding our desire for purity.
Charles Spurgeon said, “A thief can steal in a moment, but the watchman must watch all night. Sin can undo in an unguarded second the character which required years to form.”
When I was younger I spoke with an older man in my church and told him I how I was wresting with impure thoughts. I told him I had heard that sexual temptation got less as you grew older. He responded with, “Who told you that lie?”
Yes, let us be committed to purity until the day we die. It will be good.
